Frequently asked questions
I live in San Francisco. Can my dog board with Far Fetched Acres?
At this time, we are only able to accommodate pups from New York City.
Okay, but what if I live in Upstate NY?
Sorry! New York City doggies only. While we wish we could meet every pup, we have limited space and want to prioritize the pups who do not have the ability to regularly stretch their legs upstate.
My dog is over the cut-off New Camper age of 10 years old, am I still able to send him to camp?
Sorry! We find that for the safety and health of your dog, we feel most comfortable only working with senior dogs who we have a rich history with.
Where does my dog play?
The short answer - EVERYWHERE! Far Fetched Acres was designed with the idea to be the ultimate dog get-away. From the outdoor play areas to the indoor play areas, your pup is sure to get those zoomies out! Set on 127 acres, there are fields and woods galore for endless romping and playing. We have acres of runs that are securely fenced in and double gated to provide hours of supervised off- leash play and enjoyment. Oh, did we mention the pond?
Should I be concerned about Fleas, Ticks, and Internal Parasites?
While we do our best to monitor your pup for signs of external or internal parasites when they arrive and during their stay, we are located in Upstate NY which is known to be home to fleas, ticks, and giardia to name a few. Bringing your dog anywhere, there is going to be risks. Please make sure your pup has been treated with preventative and properly vaccinated BEFORE arriving at camp. Ensuring we have a complete system of preventative care, body checks, and health monitoring means less risk for your pup.
How can I check in on my dog while at camp?
We post photos of our campers daily to Snapfish and Instagram @farfetchedacres
How do I book a stay for my dog?
If your dog is a new camper, please visit our New Camper Registration page to schedule a trial visit. If your dog is a returning camper, sign into Gingr here!
It is best to give us as much notice as possible. While we are usually able to accommodate last minute booking requests depending on the dates, we do still have a 72 hour advance notice policy during off-peak times. This helps us ensure that we are able to arrange transportation, as well as have the time to set your pup up for success before they even set paw in our facility. Our policy extends to 5 days in advance during Peak times. Please note, Holidays DO book well in advance.
What is a Trial Visit?
A trial visit is required for all new campers! This is so we can get to know them, their play style, any personality quirks and to give them time to settle in and get to know our passionate team and camp routines at their own pace and so that when you do travel, you will have peace of mind knowing your pup is happy in our care. Trial Visits are set up during Off-Peak times, so we can get a feel for your pup’s preferences to see if camp is a good fit for them. Your pup’s comfort is our number one priority.
We are currently booking Off-Peak Trial Visits for Monday (Complimentary Pick Up) - Thursday (Complimentary Drop Off).
What if we need to cancel?
All cancellations for Off-Peak reservations must be made 72 hours in advance to avoid charges. Peak period cancellations must be made 14 days in advance. High Peak period cancellations must be made 30 days in advance.
When are pick-up and drop-off days?
For complimentary pick up and drop off, we will assign you a 1 hour window in advance of your dog’s stay or return home. The general pick up/drop off schedule always falls between 11:00-3:00pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate specific time requests for our complimentary pick up/drop off service. Custom rides are coordinated on an as needed basis seven days weekly. If you require an alternative day, the custom pick is available for an additional fee.
Can I visit Far Fetched Acres before my dog comes to visit?
You are welcome to visit Far Fetched Acres before deciding to board your dog with us. Please contact us to schedule a visit. We will work your visit around the exercise and nap schedule of our current guests.
What should my dog bring to Far Fetched Acres?
Bring food, a collar, and a leash! If you dog is on medication, of course we need those too. Feel free to send along a t-shirt or special treats.
My dog prefers not to be with other dogs. Is Far Fetched Acres a good match?
If your dog does not regularly socialize with other dogs on the streets, in daycare, or at the dog run, we believe Far Fetched Acres would be overwhelming for your dog. This is a very social environment. The best solution for your pet would be a pet sitter.
My dog is nervous around people. Is Far Fetched Acres a good match?
We want our campers to feel safe and confident in our care. We MUST touch, groom, and handle our campers daily for their safety and health. If you have a dog who is nervous around people and would prefer not to be touched, we believe our boarding would be overwhelming for a shy dog.
My dog is in / nearing heat. Is Far Fetched Acres a good match?
All campers must be in good physical health while at camp and free of any conditions that may affect other campers while in our care. While we accept Unaltered Females outside of their heat cycles, we are unable to accommodate any female dogs showing signs or in their heat cycle. If a dog enters into heat while here, our protocols require for them to be solo, which means that they are unable to participate in the outdoor rotations in our fields with other dogs as they normally would and may incur additional care charges. We also have to isolate them from the other dogs while in the building. Even with these measures, given the strong olfactory capabilities of dogs, her scent will permeate the building and can have a marked effect on our guests. The general energy of camp becomes more prone to high arousal, lending itself to possibility of scuffles and increased physical contact. A heat cycle usually ramps up slowly. We ask that before sending your dog to camp, you monitor any physical changes, or bleeding, while at home and notify us if you need to cancel your reservation.
